Skunks don't generally cause much trouble, aside from the burrows under porches and driveways.

Having said that, you don't want to find yourself in a stand off with a skunk, and pets are likely to provoke if they see them.

If you find yourself close to a skunk, don't make any sudden movements, just back away real slow and calm, and you should be fine.
